About the Computer Version
What is the game all about?
The best description of the game:
"Each player is represented with a fairly accurate representation of their skills whether it's a RB who is good when the defense isn't expecting a run but won't have much success at all against a defense focusing against the run (Brian Westbrook as one example), a RB who can pound it even when the defense is expecting the run (LaDainian Tomlinson among many other bigtime RB's), an offensive lineman who is good at pass blocking but poor at run blocking or vice-versa, a linebacker who isn't that strong against the pass but is a great pass rusher, a shutdown CB or a poor CB, a WR who is great deep but not so great on shorter passes or vice-versa, a QB who is good on dink passes but without a very strong arm for long passes (Pennington and Griese as examples), etc.etc.etc. Also, teams are represented well so you might want to pass the ball more against SD's tough run defense as long as your opponent doesn't focus too much on trying to stop the run, against Carolina with all their RB injuries you might not worry much about stopping their running game, etc.
Strategy is very realistic as if you try to jump the flat passes on defense you could get burned deep or if you're worried about doubling Moss or Owens then you may not be covering the run enough. Your strategy can make a big difference; if you see that your opponent is leaving his lookin zone open on second and 10s then you can try to hit the open zone next time but your opponent might have been baiting you and keep it covered; maybe your opponent isn't plugging the run zone of your strongest run so maybe you'll want to take advantage of that. These situations aren't endless but as you can tell there are a lot of them and it's adds a lot to the fun. However, the talent level of your players and their ability to make the particular play (which has luck as a big factor on one play) can make your good call a bad play or vice-versa. Game outcomes are generally an approximately equal combination of strategy, luck, and player/team talent."

Defense
On defense you move your players into zones for coverage. You have seven zones on the line as
well as two flat zones, a look-in zone, short and long pass zones. You don't want the Offense to find any
undefended zones.
A close up shot of the defensive zones:
Unlike arcade style games you are in charge of you whole Defensive team. If you have a strong Defensive team you can be very successful.
It can be a challenge to play with a weak Defensive team. You select run or pass on every play. You have 4-3 and 3-4 Defenses
as available choices. Each has a nickel and dime defense. A 5-6 defense is also available.

Each of the Defenses players have ratings. 0, 4, 5 and 6. 6 is the highest rating a Defensive player can have. Lineman and Linbackers
also have a rating for pass rush. For more information about how these numbers are used click on the link above for the computer game rules.
Offense
On Offense you select the zone and the player. You have seven run zones for your running backs. You have two flat, one look-in, a short and long pass zones.
All you do is click on the player and the zone where you want to throw the ball.
A close up shot of the offensive zones:
Most of the offensive players have a blocking rating. The Offensive line and running backs also have pass blocking ratings.
For more information about how these numbers are used click on the link above for the computer game rules.
The game provides a variety of offensive formations. For more information click on the link above for the computer game rules.
It is important to have a good mix of plays or the Defense will be able to figure out what play you are calling.
The Defense can double team your receivers or key on your runningback. They can also shut down the flat or short zones or move up to cover
the line to stop your running game. You choose the plays that will make or break the game.
